Serving Small Business

By Bruce Philpott

Candidate for Council Member; City of Glendale

This information is provided by the candidate
The city has a responsibility to help local businesses succeed by keeping costs at a minimum.
Bruce owned and operated a for-profit ambultory care facility with twelve beds and a staff of fourteen employees. He knows the challenges of meeting a payroll week after week.

Two years ago, when Brand Merchants lost customers during the reconstruction of Brand Blvd, the city ignored pleas of local merchants for urgent completion of the roadway. Many businesses suffered losses up to forty percent, while others went bankrupt.

Our policies to support and promote small businesses must extend beyond subsidies to large corporations and developers. The city government must make a concerted effort to keep local business viable and strong.

Bruce is opposed to any business tax. He understands that business taxes don't benefit local business, but just bloat the city's bureacracy. With Bruce Philpott, small businesses will have a partner in city government.

Today, as our businesses struggle to remain solvent, we must support local merchants whose taxes help keep the city viable.

Bruce's Solution:

"As a small business owner, I know what it is like to meet a payroll. I also know that local businesses in Glendale are struggling just to stay afloat.
I will fight to reduce the taxes and fees that currently burden our small businesses. The city has a responsibility to help them succeed by keeping costs at a minimum. By centralizing planning and inspections, I will streamline the permitting process for new structures and modifications of existing buildings."
