Wilma M. Wilson is a 34 year resident of the City of Carson. She has been a community leaders for over twenty-five years. She is known in Carson as the person you can count on for support.

Wilma is the fourth child out of five (5) children. She was born in Louisiana to Eddie and Atchra Beckwith. Currently her brother serves as Mayor in the State of Louisiana. In 1972 Wilma moved to Los Angeles California. She is married to Pastor William M. Wilson. She is the mother of two daughters, Tokewisha and April, four (4) grandchildren and Co-Pastor of Peace & Joy Christian Church. She attended Compton Community College where she received an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (Registered Nurse) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from California State Los Angeles , Masters in Counseling , a Master of Science in Psychology with a Marriage and Family Child Therapist from Pepperdine University. She completed 98 hour toward a Master Degree in Divinity at Talbot School of Ministry (Biola University). She graduated from Pacific Coast University School of Laws with a JD. Wilma served in the United States Army Reserves as a 1st Lieutenant for over ten years.

Wilma was the owner of Back to Eden Health Food Store for five years in the City of Carson. In 1994 she became the founder and executive director of Peace & Joy Care Center, a non-profit organization for Battered Women and their Children and Peace & Joy Child Development Center for infants and preschoolers and k-6th grade. Wilma has received the Addie Patterson Award for Outstanding Community Development Services to the City of Carson, Bank of America Community Catalyst Award ,the Glory Award from the Restoration Foundation, Harmony Award from the City of Carson. Wilma was named by the Carson Coordinating Council as one of the "Six Magnificent Woman" in 2008 from the City Carson . Wilma has been featured on channel (7), (2) and (11) news, expounding on issues concerning domestic violence. Currently, she is a member of the California State Cultural Competency Committee for Domestic Violence. She served as the N.A.A.C.P. Youth Coordinator and has received several awards from the N.A.A.C.P. She is a member of local SEIU 721 and has been a union worker all her life. She has received the Waste Management City of Carson Award for Outstanding Community Involvement for exceptional service to the City of Carson and numerous of City, County, State, Assembly and Congressional Awards for her outstanding contribution to her community in the filed of domestic violence and child development.

Wilma served on the Planning Commission for six (6) years. She was instrumental in voting on several redevelopment projects. These projects open doors for many union jobs. Currently, she is a Public Safety Commissioner, a member of the National Organization for College Women, California Association for Marriage and Family Therapist, NAACP, National Women's Political Causes, National Honor Society in Psychology (Psi Chi) and Kappa Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Beta Phi Kappa, LAAAWPAC Member, NWPC. 2nd V.P. Of N.A.A.C.P., 3rd V.P of the Carson Women Club, Women of the Year through the Compton Chamber of Commerce and received the Compton Community Development Award for outstanding Community Services, former chairperson for Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald's Women's Congressional Council. She sat on the Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority Advisory Board (LAHSA) where she advocated for homeless families. She was elected to the Los Angeles County Central Committee 55th A.D. in 2003, 2005 and now serving another two year term. She is a member of the Mexican American Democratic Club, Progressive Democratic Cards, Garden Valley Democratic Club and the Martin Luther King Jr. Democratic Club. She has been a speaker at various churches, schools and universities. She enjoys running three (3) miles a day and playing chess.
