My name is Kay Manning and I am running for Covina City Council.

By Kay Manning

Candidate for Council Member; City of Covina

This information is provided by the candidate
As a wife, mother and grandmother residing in Covina for 10 years and as a proud mother of a United States Marine on active duty, I answered my call to serve our community. When no program existed to honor Covina residents actively serving in the military, I established and continue to coordinate the Covina Yellow Ribbon Project. By hanging Yellow Ribbon Banners throughout the community, we honor and thank our Covina residents for their sacrifice and service to our Country.

After completing Covina Local Government 101 classes, I asked how I could become more involved in my city. I was appointed to the Covina Police Department Youth Accountability Board, to the Covina Housing and Community Development Advisory Commission, and later to the Covina Traffic Advisory Board. I was proud to volunteer at the Vietnam Veteran's Moving Wall when it was in Covina this past May and also volunteered on the annual Covina Christmas Festival and Parade. I am also active in my church, serving in the St. Louise de Marillac School of Religion.

I am a graduate of Mt. SAC and am completing my Bachelor's Degree this winter from National University. I received my College Counseling Certificate from U.C. Riverside and am a high school registrar. I was the 2006 Covina Chamber of Commerce Golden Heritage Award recipient and in 2008 was named Outstanding Woman of the 24th Senate District by Senator Gloria Romero.

As part of the leadership team of Community Matters, we successfully worked to continue funding for programs important to Covina citizens such as public safety, the library, parks and recreation, and street improvements.

I have a strong work ethic, am a good listener and I love Covina. I will carefully study the issues before me as your council member, and will make my decisions with the community's health and welfare in mind. I will take this assignment seriously, and I will serve you with honor, courage, and commitment.

Please support me in my efforts to continue to serve the many programs and citizens of Covina.
