We now have a new President, Barack Obama, and a new Vice President, Joe Biden. The inauguration was a glorious celebration of the greatness of America and the tremendous possibilities before us. It was a day we all worked very hard for. President Obama's message of Hope over Fear is the right message for our times. Now the hard work begins, at the national and at the local level. The success of the Obama campaign and the enormous community support it created have led me to become a candidate for the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees, Seat # 6. I made this decision because I believe that President Obama's message of hope and change must be spread throughout the country and to every level of public service. The Community Colleges provide a critical "step up" for many young people who otherwise would not have access to higher education. More importantly during hard economic times, Community Colleges provide a critical `bridge over' to train workers in new skills required for a modern, 21st Century economy. I have been fighting for social justice and change for over 35 years. I am very proud of my accomplishments as a trainer, labor and community organizer and leader;
