Public service is a tradition for Grey's family. So too is leadership. Grey believes in personal responsibility, hard work, and compassion. He believes government has an important role to play when it is effective, efficient, and accountable to its constituents.

And if you haven't noticed, Grey's style is pretty down-to-earth. He isn't a politician. He hasn't been in the political field for 20+ years. And most importantly, he isn't looking to please political insiders or party officials. Grey is campaigning on issues that matter to the residents of District 66. He is introducing aggressive policy proposals ranging from budget balancing o foreclosures to the environment, as well as to generate new economic opportunities in our region and protect classrooms.

Grey relies on a set of principles that guide his thinking and approach to his work.

• Families are the cornerstone of our society. Without jobs, education, freedom from discrimination, and the ability to spend time builing strong families, our communities, state, and nation will suffer. From healthcare to education to home ownership, we need to ensure families have what they need to thrive, not just survive, in today's economy.

• Government must be honest and accountable. Period. We can't afford - as a region and state - to continue politics-as-usual. Government plays an important role in securing our future and providing essential services, but we can't sit back and wait for Sacramento to provide for us. We need effective representation to bring home resources and services we need as a region to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

• We can't tax (or tax-cut) our way out of problems. We need real solutions to our region's problems, and it starts with a willingness to work across the political spectrum and with all communities to find solutions to our problems. Grey believes government must be held to the same standard as businesses or households - you can't spend it if you don't earn it. Grey also acknowledges that new revenue streams are required. We can't simply cut taxes in the face of an impending fiscal collapse of state services.

• Small businesses need more help. Small businesses serve as the driving force of the U.S. - and our region's - economy. We need fewer regulations and more incentives for good businesses to grow. Businesses also need to be responsible stuards of our communities, our climate, our environment, and the changing nature of our economy.

• Our environment requires urgent action. From building new green industries and high-technology centers to advocating for environmentally friendly development, Grey believes that our region is primed to serve as a center of gravity for new efforts in this arena. Most importantly, our economic, social, and recreational activities need to be sustainable and must contribute to our region's well-being.
