City Services

By Eric Kirchmann

Candidate for Council Member; City of Cotati

This information is provided by the candidate
Cotati was formed with a City Charter to provide citizens with services and access to their government This must be returned as our focus
Like any agency a City is formed to serve the citizens. You create a water agency to supply water, to maintain the system, to purify the product, and to sustain access and the system as well as dispose of "spent" water and run off. A city is formed to provide services to all citizens and to do so at reasonable combined costs. The infrastructure of Cotati has been impacted by too much robbing from peter to pay Paul development and planning processes which have not kept up with sustained revenue or mitigating infrastructure issues. We are left with little room to maintain the "unique town character and traditions" or "small rural feel" of Cotati. No, we are left with potholes, dark streets, graffiti, traffic, trash, and noise. We have become a turnstile where people pass through leaving their mess behind where we live. Citizens are not being served as they should be and poor planning has left us without adequate services or even maintaining what we have. The motto seems to be "there's never time to do it right, but there's always time to do it over. Sadly we are left with left overs or too many things still left to be done right. According to the Press Democrat in 2006 28% of City staff were paid over %100,000 per year, staff is less than 100 people and that means a great many people should be held accountable for doing a great deal more for our citizens and our city. The true measure is how many staff persons choose to live in Cotati. I have chosen to live here for over 28 years and have given back to my community in many ways usually without pay or at the lowest levels... We need to build our city for our future.
