Government Transparency

By Judy Kennedy

Candidate for Council Member; City of Santa Rosa

This information is provided by the candidate
Enact district elections and finance reform for Santa Rosa city council seats and provide easy public participation opportunities at key commission and board meetings.
Many of the residents of Santa Rosa still feel they are not represented by City Council. Contributing to this issue is the fact that elections have become increasingly costly to win preventing most potential candidates from doing so. Lastly, public participation has been hampered by inconvenient meeting times by several of the boards and commissions. Progress:
  • The City Council just voted to wait till the 2010 election to enforce campaign voluntary spending limits of $45,000 per candidate. Action Items:
  • The council should enact the $45,000 voluntary campaign spending limit for the 2008 council election.
  • The Council should put forth an initiative to set up District Elections.
  • The Design Review Board, Public Utilities Board, and Cultural Heritage Board meetings should be televised and, if at all possible, held after 4:30pm.
