To renovate and modernize the elementary and middle schools in the Millbrae Elementary School District, repairing or replacing aging roofs; worn plumbing, heating, ventilating, lighting, and electrical systems with new, energy efficient systems; increasing student access to computers and technology, and creating a dedicated technology fund, shall the District issue $30 million in bonds at interest rates within the statutory limit with all expenditures audited and reviewed by a citizens' oversight committee?

Arguments For Measure X
A Yes vote on Measure X is a vote to address critical renovation and construction needs at each of the five schools in the Millbrae ElementarySchoolDistrict. The newest school in the district was built in 1956 and the average age of the five schools is 63 years. Today they must be renovated and modernized if they are to continue to serve our community and improve the educational opportunities available to our students.

Measure X funds will:

  • Upgrade electrical systems, increasing student access to classroom computers and technology.

  • Replace leaking water and sewer lines.

  • Replace old heating and air conditioning units with new, energy‐efficient systems.

  • Make each school accessible to all students and compliant with the Americans with Disability Act.

  • Upgrade bathrooms and replace aging plumbing.

  • Replace aging roofs.

  • Create a dedicated Technology Fund to keep student computers and technology maintained and up‐to‐date.

Measure X provides for strict accountability. The School Board adopted a specific project list when calling the election. In addition, an Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee will monitor and review all expenditures. This committee of local residents will make sure that all bond funds are spent as planned for the benefit of local students.

The cost is reasonable. Approval of Measure X will cost an annual average of $19 for every $100,000 of assessed (not market) value. For the average homeowner in Millbrae, Measure X will cost less than $7 per month. Quality schools protect and enhance our property values, and support our students. All Measure X funds will be spent to renovate and improve our local elementary schools + Green Hills, Meadows, Lomita Park and Spring Valley + and Taylor Middle School.
