Mayor Mary Ann Reiss grew up in small town in Upstate New York and moved to California in 1961. By the time she retired in 1994 from her position as Human Resources Director for the City of Upland, Mayor Reiss had spent 27 hears in city government and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration.

Mary Ann moved to Pismo Beach with her husbank in late 1994 and decided she missed being involved in community activities. She was appointed to the Pismo Beach Parks and Recreation Commission in 1995 and her involvement took off from there. She was first elected to the City Council in 1996 and has served consecutively ever since. Mayor Reiss is proud of the fact that she is the first elected Mayor of Pismo Beach and is now serving her second term as Mayor. She is a graduate of the League of California Cities Elected Officials' Academy and has been appointed to many League Policy Committees serving as Chair of the Employee Relations Committee twice.

Mayor Reiss represents the City of Pismo Beach as a board member on the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments, Regional Transit Authority and the Air Polluton Control Board as well as many other local and regional commissions.

Mayor Reiss is a member of many community charitable and civic organizations including Rotary. She believes that she lives by Rotary's motto "Service Above Self."

In her not so public life, Mayor Reiss is self employed and a grandmother of eight. Her role as Grandmother is her most favorite thing in life. Mayor Reiss is married to Herbert "Bert" Brunwin, a retired Los Anglees City Fire Captain.
