EDUCATION

By John M. Rajcic

Candidate for Board Member; Ramona Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The value of education and the public school.
Schools are more than a place to train future employees; they are a place where democratic citizenship is taught and a place that binds children from vastly different backgrounds together to teach them what it means to be an American...It matters less where children come from than to know where they are going...The first and best teacher is a parent...Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but never fail to imitate them...My wife,Connie, and I are fortunate in that our grandchildren look forward to going to school and our system serves them well... not everyone feels this way and there is room for improvement... We are asked to vote on many candidates and issues...locally we have water, planning and school issues...What is more important water or education? The response is usually water..but what do we do when Colorado River water diminishes and our aquifers dry up...Little Frankie at Mount Woodson, after graduation from Ramona High and the University of California-Berkeley may discover how to perfect desalination of sea water and how to dispose of all that salt...How about maintaining the peace. Carlos at Hanson Lane becomes a Statesman that makes it happen... Betty at Olive Pierce solves the problem of spent-fuel rods and invents a solar powered car. Jaun at Ramona High is inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. America is a unique Country that has a rich and complex past and schools must tell a story that will enable students to feel a national pride...teachers sometimes forget how important they are..Our children are 20% of our population but 100% of our future.

Note: I beleive the main function of the board is to insure that resources are utilized effectively and efficiently and to stay out of the way so teachers can do their job...and to set the "tone" of the district...
