Ann has been dedicated to enriching education for our kids, in our community, for two decades. Her experience includes: Six years as a trustee for the Alpine Union School district, greater than 12 years on school site council and PTA boards, as a founding member of the Alpine High School Citizens Committee and as the facilitator of a successful bond measure to build a new middle school in the community of Alpine. She has promoted student-learning through programs, curriculum and instruction in Literacy, the Visual Arts, Technology, Science and Service Learning.

Ann has been a proponent for the Arts and Service Learning long before these concepts became vogue. As a "whole child advocate", she has long recognized the value of hands-on, collaborative instruction that provides students with the experiences as well as knowledge, that allows them to thrive-academically, personally and socially.

  • Ann was one of the principles in our district's Art Docent Program, and a docent for more than twelve years
  • Ann volunteered regularly at our Community Day School 2002-2004
  • As a director with the Back Country Land Trust she has participated in Science-related Service Learning projects with Alpine schools and San Diego City Schools, as well as projects related to student problem-solving in the mountain communities
  • Ann teamed with district stakeholders to develop our "School Wellness Policy"
  • Ann is a member of the district's "Partnerships in Character Education" committee, and has worked on this grant with our partners in the mountain communities as well

She is passionate about expanding achievement and educational opportunities for students in small, rural districts and has worked for the past twelve months in the Mountain Empire Region for San Diego Youth & Community Services.

These experiences have provided Ann a broadened understanding of community, skills with which to support both students and families and frequent opportunities for advocacy.
