Candidate for
Board Member; Grossmont Healthcare District; Full Term

This information is provided by the candidate

Qualified with experience, education, and training, I believe I will be a positive, contributing member of this Board.

As a married, mother of two adult children and one teenager, the health of my local and global community has always been a priority to me. Residing in this district for more that 25 years, my concern over the health of my community is reflected by my involvement as a volunteer. Wearing "many hats", requires effectively budgeting my time as the co-head of my family, a lab manager, clinical research coordinator, and community volunteer.

I have been a member of the San Diego State University Student Health Advisory Board, 1982-1984. On this board we investigated concerns and explored issues important to the health of students on campus. We were a liaison between this health clinic's director, staff, and the students they served. In working with the volunteer organization, Amigos De Las Americas, from 1979-1982, I served in a public health role in Central and South America. I have previously served as a Girl Scout Leader, and Boy Scout Merit badge counselor.

Currently I am a trained CERT member (Community Emergency Response Team) and Red Cross volunteer (serving the disaster response in Houston during Katrina and most recently during the 2007 San Diego Wildfires at the Steele Canyon Shelter.) I am a current member of SPRITES, a philanthropic mother-daughter club, in the Grossmont High School district. Through our SPRITES organization I put in volunteer hours with: the La Mesa Hosemanship For The Handicapped program, Meals on Wheels, New Alternatives Group Foster Home, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, CRASH Options and others.

My current career position is one of public trust. I work with a vulnerable population of elderly cancer patients and with faculty and staff of many of our local area hospitals. I have advanced my training in bioethics, audits, HIPAA law, good clinical practices, and data management.

I have previously served as an officer and as a board member for several philanthropic and non-profit boards. These involved taking positions seriously and responsibly, fulfilling duties in a leadership role, as well as a group member. I recognize the importance of teamwork and have a history of accomplishing results while working with a diverse group of people.

The Grossmont Healthcare District serves the enormous area of our east county. Our community relies on the emergency and urgent care services from Grossmont Hospital. We depend on effective, disaster preparedness, and ongoing community health education. I wish to offer my time, effort, and skill to serve as one of the directors of the Grossmont HealthCare District Board.

Thank you for considering placing your vote for me on the November 4, 2008 ballot for a 4 year term on the Grossmont HealthCare District Board.
