THE ONLY CANDIDATE whose Children STILL ATTEND a Chula Vista Elementary School (Caden and Kailey at Casillas Elementary, 2nd & 4th Grades)

EDUCATION LEADER -- COMMUNITY LEADER:

- Vast Experience in many organizations, committees and board memberships, Promoting the social and academic well being of children throughout the Chula Vista area and San Diego County **SEE LIST- PAGE 3**

- STRONGEST CANDIDATE: Russell won roughly 34% of Vote in School Board Election two years ago, even without endorsements from any major affiliation and no major funding (The 34% was among 4 candidates for the same board seat...the incumbent at that time won with only 49% of the vote...there are no run-off elections in this school board election system)

- Russell LED the grassroots petition effort to establish EQUAL REPRESENTATION via Geographic Trustee Areas within the Chula Vista Elementary School District, that would have guaranteed future School Board Seats for Residents in the East, West, North and South areas of our HUGE DISTRICT q Petition was endorsed by Congressman Bob Filner, The South Bay Forum, 79th District Republican Caucus, Eastlake-Bonita Democratic Club, State Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny, the League of Women Voters, and supported by Nick Aguilar of the County Board of Education, as well as other civic leaders and thousands of ordinary citizens!

RUSSELL CORONADO'S CAREER SUMMARY:

- Working for Chula Vista Area students for past 11 years, serving as a Bilingual School Psychologist, Lead Psychologist and School Director during Prior 9-Year Employment with the Chula Vista Elementary School District

- 2 Years, Special Education Coordinator for the San Diego County Office of Education

- 6 Years, Core Adjunct Instructor of School Psychology at National University

- Developed and Maintains strong RAPPORT with and SUPPORT from TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS and PARENTS throughout the District

- I am encouraged and proud of the work that our teachers, children and school staff are accomplishing and the success they are achieving via State Mandated Testing

- Received Specialized Training in Second Language Acquisition

- Strong advocate for second language learners + PROVIDES TRAINING to teachers, administrators and parents about second language acquisition

- Recruited and trained many of the Bilingual and African American School Psychologists who work for the Chula Vista School District

- Provided in-services on BEST PRACTICES in the assessment of Latino, bilingual and other minority children

RUSSELL CORONADO'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:

- Advocated for, developed, and led as DIRECTOR, an alternative school within the Chula Vista Elementary School District (The Daly Academy) that serves students with significant behavior disorders -- Recognized by California Department of Education as a STATE MODEL

- Russell established partnerships with National University and San Diego State University that directly benefit the School Districts in the Chula Vista Area

- Provided School Psychology Interns and Practicum students to many Chula Vista Schools over the past seven years. This has directly translated into thousands of hours of service to our students

- Direct interface with community service agencies - San Diego Regional Center, South Bay Community Services, Exceptional Family Resource Center - public, private and non-profit - having direct beneficial impact to the Chula Vista Community

- Russell helped Procure a 1 Million Dollar Grant to South Bay Community Services, to provide Intensive Mental Health Services to children and families over the next five years

- Helped establish support groups for Spanish Speaking Parents who have children with Autism and other special needs

- Develops & Presents quality professional development to Chula Vista Area Teachers

- Regularly meets with local, state and federal legislators on behalf of the children, families and communities of the Chula Vista area...This past May, I took a group of parents to Sacramento to meet with Assembly Members and State Senators in order to advocate on behalf of our schools and the threat of budget cuts that the Governor was proposing
