Candidate for
Board Member; Lakeside Union Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I am a native of San Diego and have been a Lakeside resident for 39 years. My husband Dennis and I co-own a Roofing company here in Lakeside. As the parents of three children we wanted the schools to be the best they could be not only for our kids but all children. We have worked hard to support our neighborhood schools and youth programs in Lakeside and El Cajon. In many ways the pay off now is for our grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

As a parent, supportive of Lakeside schools, I sought more involvement and joined the Ninth District PTA Board of Directors. The positions held there allowed me to view other school districts and broaden my views about our school system. Good ideas found in other districts found their way to Lakeside. As Ninth District President I had more opportunities to view enriching programs from all over the state. Having so much exposure made me aware of what may sound good but not have proven results and what was quietly getting the job done for our kids. All of this experience I believe has made me a better board member.

Through out the years I have met many parents and had opportunities to support or even start programs in Lakeside that have made a difference in the lives of our children. I have received several awards for the work that I have done but as always I believe that the real reward is making an educational impact on the life of a child.

The Chamber of Commerce has awarded me the Harry Spence award for Citizen of the Year. The Soroptimist International has awarded me the Woman of the Year and PTA has presented me several Honorary Service Awards. The best thing about awards is that it draws attention to the wonderful programs and the needs of kids.

My work has always been on behalf of children and youth and I respectfully ask for your consideration on November 4. Thank you
