Housing Costs/Shortages

By Sherry Casper

Candidate for Council Member; City of El Cajon

This information is provided by the candidate
My perspective comes from years of experience working on housing issues in El Cajon.
I am privileged to sit on the Government Affairs Committee of the East San Diego Board of Realtors. I have served as Chair of the Housing Committee of the El Cajon Community Development Corporation and Co-Chair of Housing Fair. Here's where I stand on housing issues:

  • Inclusionary Housing: It's a carrot and stick method to get private developers to build "workforce hoursing" into their developments, not just high profit high-end homes. It works. I'm for it.

  • Density Bonuses: Another carrot and stick method to get developers to build more housing in smaller land spaces, as in-fill and/or to keep costs down. Again, it works. Again, I'm for it.

  • Mixed Use Development: A creative urban solution to meet the need for higher density and more pedestrian-oriented lifestyle. It's a time-proven method of enhancing community, encouraging redevelopment and improving stewardship. I'm for it.

  • Rent Control: A legislated attept to impose socialism on private property owners. I oppose it.
