Community education and access to Care

By Nancy L. Bassett, RN

Candidate for Board Member; Palomar Pomerado Health System; Full Term

This information is provided by the candidate
Health education and prevention are the best utilization of resources for community wellness.
Wellness is a state of well-being that frequently prevents need for hospitalization. My work on the Board of Directors at PPH has included focus on community awareness and education. We provide dozens of classes monthly.

Our focus, locally and nationally, needs to be on the health of our families, especially our children. With substance abuse, Diabetes and Obesity as growing and constant challenges, we owe our children a better future.

I work with committees involved with community education, public immunization clinics, home health needs, school health education, and among others, health fairs for kids.

Teaching health priorities is part of our endorsement for community health. If we can teach families how to plant, grow, harvest, and eat more fruit and vegetables, they then have some of the tools that foster healthy eating choices. Prevention of obesity needs to start early.
