Goleta Issues

By Jean W. Blois

Candidate for Council Member; City of Goleta

This information is provided by the candidate
Key issues facing Goleta in 2008: Growth, Fiscal Responsibility, Program Development, Old Town Enhancement, Respect for Public Participation and Bishop Ranch
GROWTH: Goleta needs to continue to support our high tech environmentally friendly business. We have become a key location world-wide for important research and development in technology and eco-friendly planning. We do not have to sacrifice our rural character to continue on this path.

We need to continue to support business and people who want to help our city prosper in the future.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Goleta's future depends upon sound money management. We must prioritize Public Safety and road maintenance. We need to revisit the Revenue Neutrality Agreement with the County of Santa Barbara to enhance our prospects for the future.

PROGRAMS: As our city has come together, we have been able to enhance parks and recreation programs. We need to do more for the youth of Goleta. We need to divert our young people from behaviors that lead toward gang violence now!

OLD TOWN: Before we can make any real progress on Old Town we must take steps to reduce the danger of flooding and this is not an easy task. Every big project needs the first step and I would like to get Goleta moving.

PUBLIC INPUT: In the last year, we have become more open to public participation. We have a Planning Commission, Architectural Board of Review and other committees which welcome YOU into city decision-making.

BISHOP RANCH: This historic property within our City, deserves serious consideration by voters. I would support a referendum to insure that the public is behind any proposal for alternative use and zoning.
