Meet Lance Christensen

Lance Christensen grew up in Aurora, CO, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Brigham Young University. After college, he worked as a fourth grade educational assistant at Elkhart Elementary School in Aurora, CO. With an interest in how public policy is made and practiced, he earned a Master of Public Policy degree from Pepperdine University.

Upon completion of graduate school in Los Angeles, Lance moved his family to Sacramento where he participated in the Senate Fellowship sponsored by California State University Sacramento. During his fellowship, Lance became familiar with the state's budget process and how it pertains to the expenditure of Proposition 98 education funds in our public schools. Lance also worked as a budget analyst for the Governor's Department of Finance. His area of responsibility centered on developing both the organizational structure and budget for the newly created Department of Juvenile Justice. Lance's efforts focused on programs that would help rehabilitate young offenders so that they could be placed back in community facilities closer to their homes. Lance returned to the legislature when offered the position of Legislative Director for Senator McClintock.

Over the last four years, Lance has been an active speaker in the LegiSchool Project which teaches public policy and civic participation to high school students in Sacramento. It is his goal to see every child as a productive citizen in society.

Currently, Lance leads a church youth group and is heavily involved in the Boy Scout program. He is devoted to the young people of the area and has been involved in just about every aspect of youth life from summer camps, to high adventure trips, youth conferences, roadshows, firesides, sporting events, dances, holiday activities, service projects--all of which include families in the San Juan Unified School District.

Lance and his wife, Kelsey, are committed to the needs of the people of Sacramento. Their two sons will soon be part of the San Juan Unified educational system.
