Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Gustavo Arroyo

Candidate for
Trustee; Sacramento City Unified School District; Trustee Area 4

This information is provided by the candidate

For too long we in South Sacramento have not been represented on the school board. I am running because I care about our youth and want to give voice to the residents in our neighborhoods. If elected, my priority will be to address the issues that we care most about - keeping our kids safe, protecting after school programs, reducing drop out rates and putting more resources in the classroom.

I support preparing young people for college OR career by emphasizing the basics (math, reading, and writing) while adding skills for the future. Students these days need computer skills, teamwork, critical thinking as well as vocational and technical training. I will also promote skills that will prepare them for life by teaching them responsibility, respect, and discipline. Students will be the priority in all decisions I make, and I will insist on fiscal accountability. As a soon to be father, I want what every parent wants for their child - a quality education that will prepare them for the future.

The Sacramento City Teachers Association has endorsed me because I have the experience needed to collaborate with teachers, parents, and you - the community to tackle the complex problems facing our schools. I am proud to call South Sacramento my home and would be honored to serve you.
