I was born May 7, 1936 in Santa Maria, CA. of immigrant parents from Nayarit, Mexico. I have three younger sisters and two younger brothers. My college sweetheart, Lasara, and I were married in December, 1958. We have four children. Two graduated from McLane HS and two from Roosevelt HS. Monica is a graduate of Fresno State and is teacher for the District. Pete is Secretary-Treasurer for Teamsters Local 143. Dr. David is a graduate of Stanford and UC San Diego School of Medicine and is a pediatrician, but now working for the California Department of Public Health. And Paul is a graduate of Stanford and UCLA Law School. He is a prosecutor in the LA County District Attorney's Office . My wife was a primary grades teacher and resource teacher for FUSD for almost thirty years and a student teacher supervisor for CSU, Fresno after retirement from FUSD. She remains active with the District as a substitute teacher.

My work history includes Fresno County Social Worker, Security Mutual Life Insurance agent, Financial Aid Counselor at Fresno City College, Financial Aid Director at CSU, Stanislaus, Financial Aid Counselor, Educational Opportunities Program Counselor and International Students Counselor at CSU, Fresno, where I worked from 1974-1999.

I have served on the Fresno USD since 1990.
