I work hard for our children. I spend many hours working at various schools, talking with parents and teachers asking how we can do things better!

I will work on parent engagement and activities to bring the school community closer together, welcoming parent input and concerns. This includes working with Parent Teacher Association, (PTA), and other various parent groups. Studies have proved that with student/parent engagement in the schools, drop out rates are reduced,

I will work with school sites to go over the safety of the school for our children and staff. Each campus is different and needs a specialized plan and policies to address their schools. This is an immediate concern for me and many parents.

I will work to implement a successful updated Vocational Education Program that will utilize our business community, parents, teachers and students input. This will enhance our youths self worth and confidence, plus give them the education to achieve a career path in our community. This will also reduce the drop out rate by keeping them involved in a program that has benefits to the students career choices.

I believe we need to begin the budget year with the thought of ensuring our classrooms and students do not lack supplies and tools they need to enhance their education. This includes the proper amount of teachers, aides and tutors for the education and to have adequate staff for counseling and administration/office personnel. When the parent engagement is implemented as well, this will give the schools more volunteers to help with in-class needs. This gives the students a chance to have more adult interaction and create mentor's.

I know this is a team job and my voice counts as one of seven on the school board. These issues are very important to achieve successful, productive citizens for Fresno and our community. We want to keep gangs, drugs and violence down. To do this we need parents, teacher and community involvement with input to create programs that work. These programs should be available to all students and all grade levels. Arts, sciences and physical education are important tools for all or our children, not just the upper grades.

There are many other area's that need revisions or updates. These will be looked over as they appear before the board or myself. I will work hard for all of our children and schools.
