WHO AM I?

My name is Myrlys (rhymes with fearless) Stockdale, and I'd like to serve as one of your El Dorado Hills Community Service District's Board of Directors members.

I am a former newspaper reporter and Public Affairs Director who worked by day and went to law school at night while raising two children, in order to create a better life for the children.

In 2003 after passing the California Bar Exam, I opened up my own law firm, and in 5 years have grown it to a multi-attorney law firm which gives back to this community.

My firm supports some of the the following local groups/events:

  • Rotary's Crab Feed and the annual Wine at Town Center events;
  • El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce;
  • Center for Violence-Free Relationships (formerly El Dorado Women's Center) annual fundraiser at Town Center;
  • El Dorado Hills Fire Department's Wine and Cheese;
  • People for Animal Welfare in El Dorado County (PAWED)

Also, I presently serve as a member of the Community Service District's Design Review Committee as well as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Community Vision Incorporated + both are positions which were appointed by or approved by the CSD.

I am a trained mediator/arbitrator, which are skills that can be helpful when presented with differing perspectives on a given issue or in disputes in general. In addition, I have served as a Judge Pro Tempore for El Dorado County Superior Court, so I am comfortable reviewing facts on both sides of an issue and making informed decisions accordingly.

I earned my B.A. in Journalism/Political Science from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and my J.D. from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ISSUES I SUPPORT?

If elected to serve on the CSD's Board of Directors, I will work to:

  • Support and expand the CSD's community outreach and education efforts;
  • Explore the feasibility of uniform CC&Rs for the villages;
  • Support fixed route bus service around town; Promote the Senior Center, Teen Center, and their programs;
  • Create a dog park in town;
  • Increase governmental efficiency, streamlining processes.

WHY AM I RUNNING?

Serving on the CSD Board is something that I have wanted to do for some time and now, I have the ability to commit to the responsibilities of this higher-level local public service.

I moved to El Dorado Hills in 1994 to raise my two children -- we first lived in Marina Village and now in Governor's Village. My children have played in many of our town's parks and participated in countless youth athletic events, and grew up using CSD facilities. They both attended Lake Forest Elementary, Marina Village Middle School and Oak Ridge High School.

I love living in El Dorado Hills and want to preserve and enhance the quality of life in this community. I want to make a difference.
