To ensure that the children of Millbrae continue to receive a high quality education, to offset State budget cuts, to reinstate eliminated music, library, instructional and technology aides and custodians, protect teachers from layoffs, and to support and maintain the District's academic programs and classroom health and safety, shall the Millbrae Elementary School District be authorized to levy an annual tax of seventy-eight ($78) dollars per taxable parcel, limited to five years with a tax exemption for senior citizens?

Arguments For Measure P
The Millbrae Elementary School District has educated children for over 60 years with the lowest per pupil spending of 23 neighboring districts with consistently higher scores on API testing. In response to $1.8 million in budget cuts, the District Advisory Committee recommended and the District has done the following: Sold surplus property although receipts cannot be used for daily educational expenses, supported development of an Educational Foundation, and approved a Parcel Tax, Measure P for the June 3 ballot.

The state is considering $400 million additional cuts to educational funding with more proposed for 2008-2009 and local districts are looking at drastic budget cuts. The passage of Measure P is essential to help maintain the current budget for the Millbrae Elementary School District, and to reduce further cuts including Teachers.

Current cuts included eliminating some Maintenance Personnel and Custodians, which impacted health and safety of students. The loss of Instructional, Technology and Library Aides put increased pressure on teachers who address special needs of students without support. Additional cuts will increase this pressure and students will begin to suffer. We all know how important a good education is for future success. Traditionally families have located to our community because of our excellent schools, which helps increase home values. The state's situation will not improve anytime soon, and the Millbrae Elementary School District cannot continue to do their excellent job without help from the community.

Measure P will cost property owners $78 per year in deductible property taxes, with a senior exemption by application. More importantly all funds stay in Millbrae to help Millbrae children.

Measure P will have an Independent Oversight Committee to insure funds are spent as voters intended. We urge all voters to join us and vote

Yes on Measure P for our children and community.
