Candidate for
Council Member; City of Morro Bay

I'm Jack Barrett. My wife of 35 years ,Barbara, and I moved our corporate offices to Morro Bay ten years ago from the West Los Angeles area where we were both born and raised. I am also a fourth-generation Californian, whose father, grandfather and several uncles were all envolved in law enforcement in the state.

I'm also a retired law enforcement officer and a Korean War veteran. In 1966 I took a leave of absence from the California Highway Patrol, dropped out of law school, and served with the U.S. State Department in Vietnam. When I returned from Vietnam I was involved with the Patrol's public relations program and became a screenwriter for the old Dragnet TV series. For more than thirty years now, I've owned and operated a successful private investigating and insurance adjusting business. We started with just one office in Santa Monica and presently operate an additional ten offices throughout California. I understand how to run a complex business.

I have always been involved with my local community. First, as a police officer for nearly twenty years; and as a member of Rotary since 1978, serving as president of the local Marina del Rey Club and as a current member and past director of the Morro Bay Rotary Club. During my term in the Marina Club, we were responsible for saving the Spruce Goose from being dismantled, were successful in having it enshrined in Long Beach, and inducted Howard Hughes into Rotary. I am also the immediate past president of the Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce, a founding director of Friends of the Morro Bay Police Dept., and for the past seven years have served on the finance committee at St. Timothy's church.

Barbara and I are former members of the Santa Monica Yacht Club in Marina del Rey, and currently belong to the Morro Bay Yacht Club. We've owned several large sailboats in the past and spent a year blue-water cruising in Mexican waters.
