Help Support A Real Hero

By Rudy A. Reyes, Jr.

Candidate for Supervisor; County of San Diego; Supervisorial District 2

This information is provided by the candidate
Vote reyes for San Diego County board of supervisors
Since late 2003, the name Rudy Reyes and the word hero have been synonymous. This is primarily because during the Cedar fire of that year, the then-26-year-old made sure his family got out of their Wildcat Canyon home before attempting to leave himself. Unable to start his car due to heavy airborne smoke, Reyes sprinted through a wall of flames and emerged with burns covering more than 65 percent of his body. He lost most of his left ear and part of a finger; his remaining digits are permanently disfigured. He was considered legally blind until corrective eye surgery two years ago fixed that. Despite it all, Reyes is charismatic--a thoroughly likeable guy driven to make the most of his life.

Nationally recognized as the hero in the 2003 fires, he began his career as a middle school AVID teacher. He later received degrees in Archaeology, taught at university level, and helped organize the Barona Indian cultural center/museum. His Archaeological work is currently presented in the El Cajon Courthouse, as the Barona Photo collection.

Currently, Rudy Reyes is running for the 2nd seat on the San Diego county board of supervisors. He has spoken for CHAD/United Way, and The Burn Institute. He is an activist who intends to promote the interests of fire/burn survivors as well as people with disabilities, and a "Eco-Green" San Diego County.

""Hi, I'm Rudy Reyes. After watching my county burn twice, I've decided to run for county board as a measure to stop the senseless politics involved in fires. We can reclaim our political system. Through deseating incumbents, we rattle the system. By replacing them with new voted ideas/people, we help make changes. The incumbant has been there for 12 years now, as have most county board members; as many agree, the time for change is upon us. Vote reyes for San Diego County board of supervisors.""
