Eleanor A. Mang was born in Elgin, Illinois and she soon moved to Des Moines, Iowa with her parents. When her dad learned that Consolidated Aircraft was hiring in 1940, they were on their way to San Diego, where she learned to love the beaches and bays, hillsides and canyons of Coronado and La Jolla.

As a young wife and mother, Eleanor resided in Pacific Beach and Clairemont with her husband Joe, where they raised five children before she pursued her college education and a challenging career including extensive travel. She calls herself "the lucky lady."

Her goals for retirement included her family, tutoring, community planning committee and dedication to the Democratic Party. But, it has been the San Diego County Democratic Party that has been Eleanor's greatest priority over the last eight years. As an Executive Board member of the Democratic Central Committee she has served as Director of Administration, CIS Director, and is currently Vice Chair of the Central Area.
