Questions & Answers

1. The American occupation in Iraq continues to be enormously costly in dollars and in lives. What is your position on how our government should proceed?

We must have a plan to bring our troops home. "Stay the course" is not a plan. We should not set a date for complete withdrawal. I support a strong national defense and the brave men and women serving our country in Iraq and around the world.

2. What is your impression of the roll-out of the Medicare Prescription Drug program so far, and what changes would you propose to make it better?

This plan was written to benefit the big pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies, not senior citizens. The roll-out has been a disaster. Medicare should be able to negotiate directly with the drug companies for bulk rate discounts.

3. Where do you stand on the current balance between security and civil rights?

The Constitutional system of checks and balances and limited government provides Americans with security against intrusive government power. President Bush is wrongly seeking power unchecked by the courts and Congress. Congress has failed to provide oversight of the White House and executive branch.
