BIOGRAPHY

I was born and raised in San Luis Obispo, and graduated from SLO High in 1978. After attending Cuesta College for two years, and then Santa Barbara Business College, I worked as a bookkeeper in San Luis for 8 years until I got married to my husband, Cal.

After our first daughter was born, I worked part time as a bookkeeper, and part time with the Parent Participation program in SLO. I also did volunteer work as a statistician for Alpha Crisis Pregnancy Center in SLO.

In 1995 we moved to Santa Margarita. When Kailyn (our older daughter) started Kindergarten, I began volunteering in her classroom. I continued volunteering in classrooms at Santa Margarita Elementary for 10 years, until Shaley (our younger daughter) promoted to 7th grade last June.

In 2002 I was elected to the School Site Council at Santa Margarita Elementary where I held two consecutive 2-year terms, and served as chairperson for the last two years. I also served as GATE representative, Safety subcommittee chair, Parent Survey coordinator, and District Advisory Committee representative for Santa Margarita Elementary.

Last year I was appointed to the Atascadero High School Site Council as vice chair, and also served on the High School Accreditation Committee.

I have volunteered over 600 hours this year alone working with and for the children in our community; at the school level, as a Girl Scout Leader, and at County Animal Services, Camp P.A.W.S. during the summer. I'm doing what I enjoy the most - working with kids, and promoting healthy, respectful living and learning!

Sincerely, Tami Gunther, School Board Candidate
