Wastewater Project

By Jeff Edwards

Candidate for Director; Los Osos Community Services District

This information is provided by the candidate
Jeff's Choice -- Out of Town Sewer Site
Benefits of LOVE Farm "LOVE Farm" (Los Osos Valley Equine Farm) is 50 acres (20 acres usable flat land), in a box canyon at the southwest corner of the Los Osos Valley.

1. LOVE Farm was once considered by Golden State Water to acquire a well for east side pumping and augmenting community water supplies.
2. Currently LOVE Farm houses dozens of horses with their associated waste stream; which would be removed further protecting the creek from pollution.
3. The nearest homes to LOVE Farm are located upwind and across Los Osos Creek.
4. LOVE Farm is adjacent to the CSD boundaries for easy annexation, and contradicts the "growth inducing" arguments that plague a site further removed from the urban core.
5. The proximity to the creek for potential summer creek discharge.
6. The discharge in Los Osos Creek enhances Steelhead trout habitat (similar to Cuesta College/CMC wastewater treatment facility benefits to Chorro Creek).
7. Existing buildings already on site may be converted to offices and work areas versus constructing all new facilities.
8. Nearby farms have shown some interest in treated wastewater.
9. SLO County has considered recharge potential at the area around that site.
10. The facility would be out of site, hidden in the canyon and out of the public view.
11. The site has excellent solar access and solar panels would prove successful in defraying energy costs for the wastewater facility.
