Dropout rates

By Carol Weise Herrera

Candidate for Board Member; Vista Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Present dropout rates in our schools must be drastically reduced.
We must drastically reduce the 25 to 30% dropout rate in our schools. Teachers must set high expectations, monitor academic success, and engage parental support for high school completion. These students must be identified and monitored as early as third grade. They must not be permitted to fall behind. No child sets out on his life journey will a desire to fail. Adults in the educational system must be the student's connection to success. In every setting and situation, our message must be clear--students in the Vista Unified School District will be given every possible opportunity for success.
