A VOTE for CHANGE is a vote for your CHILDREN!

Hi, my name is Russell Coronado. I am a voice for children. I am running for the Chula Vista Elementary School Board. Why? It is time for a change. It is time for some fresh ideas and novel thinking and questioning. We need a change so that children become the priority. It is time for every student to have academic and social success. It's time for all teachers to be valued and supported. After nine years of working for your children in the Chula Vista Elementary School District as a School Psychologist and Director (Principal) of the Daly Academy, I want to continue to look out for their future. I also have two children, Kailey and Caden, who attend Casillas Elementary School, where my wife, Alice, volunteers her time.

Parents entrust our school district with the well being of their children, and the district must ensure that regardless of their background, all students receive a free, quality public education. The school district must create a stable learning environment that addresses the needs of students, teachers and administrators. It is time that our principals, teachers and our schools are given the resources they need to execute the plans set forth by the District and Board of Education, both in general and special education. Our children can no longer wait year after year for the School Board to address their needs. Our community deserves a Board that can speak to the issues, ask the difficult questions, and be a true advocate for students, parents and teachers. The School District seems to lack a sense of urgency, as too many of our children continue to score below proficient on state achievement tests. This lack of urgency leads to inaction. In order for performance gains to be accelerated, the District and the Board must be more accountable for their actions. Board members must be visible in the community, regularly engaging with parents and staff. The commitment I make to you is that I will work with determination, compassion and urgency with students, parents, teachers and district staff. My experience has led me to believe that collaboration, accountability and vigilance lead to success!

This November 7th, I am asking for, and the students of Chula Vista Elementary School District need, your support!
