A native Californian, Patrick Hume was born on George Air Force Base in Adelanto, CA. He and his family lived in Salisbury, England and Fort Walton Beach, FL before his father, Col. Harlan B. Hume was killed during active duty in September of 1977. They then moved to Elk Grove, where his mother's side of the family had lived since 1946. His father's side of the family were homesteaders in Chico, CA. His grandfather Harry Hume was city manager there in the late 1930's.

Although he grew up in Elk Grove, across from Elk Grove High School, Pat graduated in 1990 from Jesuit High School in Carmichael, before receiving his BA from San Diego State University. He stayed in San Diego after college until moving back home to help the family business after his grandfather's death in 1998.

The Guttridges have had a strong presence in Elk Grove for over half a century. Patrick models his sense of character and integrity on his grandfather Jim Guttridge. Jim served on the EGUSD school board for over two decades and was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Elk Grove. Pat has been nominated to assume the role of president of that club in July of 2007. In addition to Rotary, the family has been active in the Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimist, Project RIDE, Strauss Festival, EGACT, EGPAC and the Elk Grove Community Foundation. Patrick currently serves on that body's board of directors as its Development Committee chairman. He also chaired the extremely successful Spotlight Elk Grove inaugural event and will continue that role this year.

Patrick served on the City of Elk Grove Planning Commission from incorporation until March of 2006, when he resigned after announcing his intention to run for City Council. He hopes to bring the same no-nonsense, honest and forthright leadership exhibited during his tenure on the Planning Commission to the Council.

He works for Emerald Park Company, the homebuilding company founded by his grandfather in 1964. Pat is not married and has no children. His answers to the most commonly asked questions are: no, yes, dog, boxers, Ford, chocolate, over, Pepsi and sometimes. He enjoys camping, golfing, skiing and fishing.
