Bonnie Neely on affordable housing

By Bonnie Neely

Candidate for Supervisor; County of Humboldt; District 4

This information is provided by the candidate
Bonnie Neely is the only candidate for 4th District Supervisor who's shown she understands the critical importance of affordable housing.

Special interest developer groups like to talk about building more housing, especially large, expensive homes + affordable only to the few.

But their scheme, although highly profitable for them, would create very little housing that's affordable to the average working family.

It would, however, create sprawl, traffic congestion and a new threat to our quality of life.

Bonnie recognizes that there are better, smarter ways to provide real affordable housing.

That's why she's announced an innovative plan to implement county-wide redevelopment, which will dramatically increase the ability of working families to find quality housing they can afford. Bonnie's plan increases funds for affordable housing by calling for a 50 percent increase in redevelopment money than required by state law.

She'll fight to see that housing is created close to existing services, such as those available in downtown and Old Town Eureka. This will save our precious open space, timber resources and agricultural land for future generations, while providing housing opportunities close to essential services such as shopping, health care and public transportation.

A lot of politicians like to talk about affordable housing, but Bonnie Neely is the only candidate who's introduced a real plan to benefit real families. That's leadership - the kind of leadership we've come to expect from Bonnie Neely.
