Elected to the Fresno Unified School District Board of Education in November 2002, Ms. Medina served as Board President in 2005 and 2006. The Board is responsible for overseeing the operations of the fourth largest school district in the state, with 78,000 students and a budget of $800 million.

Ms. Medina is currently employed as the Development Director for Central California Legal Services. CCLS is the primary provider of free civil legal services in the Central Valley to eligible low-income individuals, including low-wage workers, victims of domestic violence and seniors.

CCLS provides assistance in numerous areas including domestic violence and elder abuse prevention, landlord/tenant, healthcare access, education and youth law, consumer law, community economic development, employee rights and taxpayer assistance.

Her previous employment includes 15 years as the Executive Director for Centro La Familia, a local non-profit agency working to improve the lives of Fresno children and families. From 1995-98, she was the Chief Operations Officer for the Fresno Private Industry Council, the precursor to the Fresno Area Workforce Investment Corporation.

Over twenty-five years of experience as an advocate for children and families in Fresno County.

  • Children and Families Commission of Fresno County (First 5), Vice Chair for 2 years, Commissioner for 5 years.

  • Fresno County Foster Care Standards and Oversight Committee, whose purpose is to assist Fresno County's Department of Children and Family Services carry out its responsibilities, 3 years.

  • Local Health Care Coalition, a coalition of community groups that works to increase health care access for the un-served and underserved - access that is medically, culturally, linguistically, and geographically appropriate. Co-founder.

  • City of Fresno's Housing and Community Development Commission, an advisory body to the Mayor and City Council on matters related to redevelopment projects and the expenditure of federal dollars for revitalization of moderate and low-income communities. Chaired Commission for 4 years.

  • Fresno County Economics Opportunities Commission, Board of Directors, one of the largest community action agencies in the country for 10 years. Board Chair (1985-87), the only woman to have served in this capacity.

  • Sequoia Community Health Foundation, Board member
