Our Founders all knew our system of government would work only with a moral and religious people. The Supreme Court of the 1960's created two serious problems for America. One is they convinced an unsuspecting country that their judgements carried just as much or more weight than laws passed by the legislature or by vote of the people. We can all think of times laws were "struck down" as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. There are many situations where their validity for us today comes from court decisions rather than laws. What America has forgotten is that a Democratic Republic like America is based on laws, not the opinions of men or on court decisions. While the courts do have the right to declare laws unconstitutional that cannot mean the law is null and void or else the courts are the most powerful entity in the land. That was obviously not the intention of the Founders. The other problem for America this has created is a mistrust of religion, specifically the Christian religion. The Founding Fathers, and indeed most of America, know Christianity is good for people and society. We are a divided, factious people today because we have lost the unifying effect of Christianity. Prayer, Bible reading, religious symbols, the ten commandments, churches, Christmas, Easter, are all things that have been villanized by the court system. We have been made to feel it is more important to not offend someone than it is to honor God. History proves that where Christianity is honored society is stronger. Our nation's anti-Christian bent must be reversed if we are to become a great people again. |
