Candidate for
Democratic Party Central Committee; County of Orange; State Assembly District 73

KATHLEEN GIBNEY was born in Downey, California on February 14,1967 to Robert and Dorothy Gibney. She has 6 brothers and sisters. She has been raised in San Clemente for 35 years, where she is active in community affairs. She is a loyal life long Democrat, who wears the words "liberal" and "progressive" as badges of honor. In 1976 she stuffed envelopes with her neighbor for future President Jimmy Carter. Is very happy that he won.

From 1982- 1985 she was a member and Co-Chair of the Junior Statesmen of America chapter at San Clemente High School where she participated in debating the issues, such as a woman's right to choose, and the death penalty.

From 1985 - 1994 Kathleen founded the Saddleback College Democratic Club of which she was the president of. She was also active in the California College Democrats and California Young Democrats. Kathleen also participated in the Associated Student Government where she was put in charge of putting together political forums on Afghanistan and AIDS Awareness.

From 1994 - 1998 Kathleen attended California State University, Fullerton majoring in Political Science. She was very active in the Political Science Club. She also participated in a Sacramento Seminar where she spoke with Democratic legislators, sat in on legislative hearings on the subject of health and welfare, and did other research on the Welfare System with regard to women.

Currently Kathleen is in the Master of Arts Degree Program in Political Science at California State University, Fullerton where she is working to obtain her degree, so she can teach. The classes she is taking are mostly focussed in Political Philosophy.

In the late 1990s to 2000 Kathleen served as the Political Liasson for the South Orange County Democratic Club. She is still politically active in this club of which she has been a member since 1985. She also served as Secretary and Vice Chair for the 73rd Assembly District Caucus.

Currently Kathleen is:

1) Serving on the Orange County Democratic Party's Central Committee where Kathleen is on the Executive Board for the party representing the 73rd Assembly District. By holding this seat she votes on important issues, such as budget, candidate issues, and other party business. She also serves as the Co-Chair for the Resolutions Committee, where she is a mover and a shaker. Kathleen also attends the meetings for the central committee every month.

2) As far as Volunteer work Kathleen has volunteered in the Orange County Democratic Party headquarters stuffing envelopes for central committee meetings and candidate fundraisers. She's also walked precincts for candidates.

Kathleen is politically active with regard to Peace in the Middle East regarding Israeli and Palistinian relations. Currently she has arranged for the progressive group "Americans for Peace Now" to have a booth at the Orange County's Jewish Federation's Israel Expo for May 2006. APN is a progressive group dedicated to establishing a peaceful unity between Jews and Palistinians. At the California Democratic Party's State Convention Kathleen arranged for the Democrats for Israel to join in with the South Orange County Democratic Club and Steve Young for Congress to sign up for a booth at the Israel Expo 2006. Kathleen will be volunteering at each of those booths along with other Democrats.

During the Summer and Fall of 1992 Kathleen volunteered in the South Orange County "Elect Clinton/Gore" campaign headquarters where she did precinct walking, stuffed envolopes and made telephone calls. She also worked in the same campaign headquarters to re-elect them during the Summer and Fall of 1996. At the same time Kathleen also volunteered in the Irvine campaign office located at UCI where she also answered telephones, and help manage the office after many of the other volunteers had gone home.

During the Spring, Summer and Fall of 1998 Kathleen volunteered to work on the campaigns of Pete Maddox and Leo Galcher, two Democrats who were running for the South Orange County Community College District. These two candidates were solid progressive Democrats.

During the Summer and Fall of 2000 Kathleen volunteered in the South Orange County "Elect Gore/Lieberman" campaign headquarters where she stuffed envelopes, walked precincts, and made telephone calls.

During the Summer and Fall of 2004 Kathleen volunteered in the South Orange County "Kerry/Edwards" campaign headquarters where she stuffed envelopes, made phone calls, walked precincts, and worked on the computer to find more Democrats living within the area.

3) Kathleen also attends the California Democratic Party's state conventions every year where she votes to endorse candidates for the state executive branch of the government. She is also active in pushing issues, such as a woman's right to choose, public education, and help promoting peace in the Middle East.

Kathleen worked to defeat propositions 71 - 76. All of them were very important to her to be defeated, and is thrilled that they all were.

Kathleen is very supportive of our troops by bringing them all home. WE NEED TO PULL OUT OF IRAQ NOW!

On a side note, Kathleen is also a huge fan of the television series, "The West Wing," and USA's television series, "Monk." She is also a big fan of political oriented movies, and comedies such as "The American President," and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." Other hobbies include swimming, and going to Disneyland (pin trading), and going to ANAHEIM Angel's baseball games.

If re-elected KATHLEEN GIBNEY promises to do more than the best of her ability to promote the values of the Democratic Party, of which she has been a life long Democrat from birth to the present. She considers herself to be a very dedicated and progressive Democrat.
