| Arguments For Measure P |
|
Agriculture is an integral part of the heritage, culture and landscape of the San Mateo County
Coast. Flowers, pumpkins, vegetables and Christmas trees offer residents and visitors to our
region a viewscape of open space as well as the production of food, flora and fauna appreciated
throughout the United States. In order to remain in the business of producing the abundant
variety of crops evident here on the Coast, farmers and ranchers must deal not only with the
business of agriculture (markets, cost of production, labor), but must also address the resource
issues which are the lifeblood of farming: healthy soil, favorable weather patterns and a safe,
reliable, affordable source of irrigation water.
We have been proud to advocate for policies and programs that assist our farmers and ranchers to achieve their goals of a sustainable farming community. The San Mateo County Farm Bureau has developed the following policy regarding the distribution of recycled Tertiary Treated Wastewater; we support the development of recycled water for a supplemental irrigation supply especially in areas where ground water supplies may be limited, and we believe Tertiary treatment should be the minimum quality standard for available recycled water. The Farm Bureau looks forward to continuing to engage in this issue, which we see as a benefit to the water quality of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary; has the potential of enhancement of habitat for our native andronomous fish population; can assist in achieving the sustainability of our important agricultural community; and can lead to the important balance of beneficial uses of our limited water resources. We therefore strongly endorse a positive policy statement by the voters of Half Moon Bay and we urge you to join us in that endorsement by voting Yes on Measure "P" on November 8. The undersigned proponent(s) or author(s) of the primary argument in favor of Ballot Measure P at the Consolidated Election for the City of Half Moon Bay to be held on November 8, 2005, hereby state that such argument is true and correct to the best of ______________(his/her/their) knowledge and belief.
