My goal as a member of the Mill Valley City Council is to maintain and improve the quality of life in this wonderful town.

I have lived in the City of Mill Valley for over 20 years and I have been involved in a wide range of activities in our city including:

  • Mill Valley Planning Commission (Six years, Chair for one year)
  • Mill Valley Bicycle and Trails Committee
  • Fundraising Committee for the Community Center
  • Fundraising Committee for Tam High Foundation
  • School District Class Size Reduction Task Force
  • Old Mill School Site Council (President)
  • Old Mill School PTA (Committee Chair three years)
  • Tamalpais Preschool Board of Trustees (President)
  • Mill Valley Soccer Club (President four years (two terms), board member 12 years, currently on Competitive Committee)
  • Little League (Coach nine years, statistician two years)
  • Soccer Club (Coach 12 years, competitive team manager eight years)

Fun facts to know about me:

  • I was born February 1, 1952, in Los Angeles, CA
  • I graduated with honors from UC Berkeley,1973
  • I received my JD from Boalt Hall School of Law, UC Berkeley, 1976
  • I was in Bank of America's Legal Department from 1976- 1981
  • From BofA, I went to Leland, Parachini, Steinberg, Matzger & Melnick law firm in San Francisco, where I am now a partner specializing in land use and real property law
  • I married Leslie Lauricella on October 16, 1983, and we moved to Mill Valley 1984
  • We have four wonderful children:
    1. David, born August 23, 1986, now a freshman at USC
    2. Samantha, born December 19, 1988, now a junior at Tam High
    3. Jacqueline, born March 8, 1991, now a freshman at Tam High
    4. Jonathan, born January 16, 1995, now a 5th grader at Old Mill School
  • We have remodeled our house twice and are still married!
  • My license plate, "I LOV LAW," is a reference to my wonderful wife, Leslie Ann Wachtel
