War and Peace

By John C. Reiger

Candidate for United States Representative; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
Peace is the only true security. Self defense may at times be necessary, but a serious policy of working for more justice in the world, and striving for friendly relations with all nations, will do more to create a peaceful world than all the world's armies.
War and Peace

Peace is the only true security. Self defense may at times be necessary, but a serious policy of working for more justice in the world, and striving for friendly relations with all nations, will do more to create a peaceful world than all the world's armies.

War

  • Bring the troops home (we now have U.S. soldiers in 121 countries).
  • End U.S. imperialism - no more foreign wars for oil, or corporate profits, or . . .
  • Renounce U.S. first strike option. We should never start a war!
  • Renounce the use of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, and begin dismantling our stockpiles under United Nations supervision.
  • Stop all U.S. arms exports and arms trade.
  • No military draft - abolish the Selective Service.
  • Downsize the military. Retrain military personnel.
  • Limit military research and development.

Peace
  • Create a Department of Peace.
  • 100% War Profits Tax on corporations - end war profiteering.
  • Convert from military to peaceful production.
  • Work toward global disarmament. Lead by example by dismantling our nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, and calling for a global disarmament conference
  • Sign the anti-landmine treaty, no child soldier treaty, and other similar treaties.
  • No weapons in space.
  • Abolish all government agencies working against foreign governments.
  • Strengthen a truly independent United Nations. Pay our fair U.N. dues promptly.

International Justice
  • End all support for repressive and non-democratic regimes.
  • Join and support the World Court.
  • Self determination for all peoples of the world.
  • Support international labor unions, and environmental efforts.

The Peace and International Justice Plank of the Peace and Freedom Party Platform

The drive for greater profits by multinational corporations that directs U.S. foreign policy is a major cause of war. We stand for peace between nations and the right of all people to self-determination. We support an ongoing socialist transformation everywhere.

We therefore call for:

  • The U.S. to renounce nuclear first strike, and to take the initiative toward global disarmament by eliminating all of its nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
  • No U.S. intervention anywhere. End all support and aid to repressive regimes, and all military and police training aid everywhere. End efforts to destabilize foreign governments. End U.S.-directed economic warfare against other countries. Abolish the CIA, NSA, AID and other agencies for interference in other countries' internal affairs. Withdraw all U.S. troops from all other countries.
  • Stop all U.S. arms exports and trade.
  • Dissolve all military pacts.
  • Convert from military to peaceful production; reallocate the resulting "peace dividend" for social benefit. Abolish the Selective Service System.
  • No weapons in space.
