Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Nikki Capshaw

Candidate for
Board Member; Burbank Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I believe that the Office of School Board Member ought not to be seen as a "political office." Too often, members seem to use the School Board as a jumping off point for a broader political career. I am first and foremost, a parent, and as such I will bring the concerns of parents -- not politicians -- to the forefront of the School Board. I believe the most important job of a School Board member is to represent the needs of the students -- all too often their needs get lost amid the concerns of politicians, unions, etc. Students may not have a vote in what goes on in their respective communities, but they ought to have a voice as it is their futures we are preparing them for. To me, being on the School Board is all about the kids, and in serving on the School Board their needs will always be my top priority.
