Public Transportation

By Carl L. Mariz

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 70

This information is provided by the candidate
Public transportation improvements are necessary. They are needed to reduce freeway traffic and congestion. First we must expand bus service. Next is to expand lighr and heavy rail service. More freeways and toll roads will not solve our traffic problems.
Public transportation improvements are necessary if we are to keep our freeways from becoming more congested and snarled. The first step is to expand bus service. We should also build light rail or other systems that run on their own right-of-ways. A train runs just as fast when crowded as when empty. More freeways and toll roads will not be as effective in reducing congestion. Public transportation has another big advantage. It reduces significantly the demand for land for extra wide streets, freeways and parking lots. This land can be mace available for housing, parks and other recreation activities.
