People are tired of politics as usual. It prevents action on important issues, turns away voters, and ultimately undermines our democracy.

In the past year, California sent a message to the status quo: enough is enough. Failure is not acceptable.

For the first time in our state's history, we recalled a sitting governor, replacing Gray Davis with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I want to leave California in as good a condition for my children and grandchildren, as my father left it to me.

I'm a third generation farmer and rancher who's spent more than twenty years in public service. I don't duck problems, I face up to them.

The world changed forever on September 11th, forcing all of us to take a fundamental look at ourselves as a country: Who are we, what do we stand for, and do we have the strength to meet the challenges that await us in the years ahead?

California deserves a Senator who will step up to the plate and actually lead; someone who will work with the Administration and not against it, yet be gracious enough to reach across the aisle, as Senator Feinstein recently did in voting for the President's Medicare reform bill.

I will be a Senator who will work with Republicans and Democrats... to enhance our infrastructure, ensure our security, make real education reform a priority and support businesses both large and small.

I want to face these issues, so that today's fixable problems do not become tomorrow's runaway crises.

When the voters of California send me to the United States Senate, I pledge to put people's interest ahead of partisan interests.

I believe that when people are straight with one another, the possibilities are endless. I will lead with hard work and integrity, to restore the people's belief in their leaders.
