My basic philosophy is simple. Live in the present and plan for the future. On a daily basis, decisions are made that either enhance or diminish our quality of life. Un-funded mandates from the State of California, little interaction between the local agencies in our County and priorities within our own community that need to be evaluated and re-evaluated regularly. Life on the Central Coast is very fluid and can be impacted by the slightest of decisions. Offshore oil platforms (which I oppose), the complete closure of our fishing industry due to misrepresented data, the widening of Highway 101 to accommodate more traffic and congestion (CalTrans is in the wrong business. Instead of building more roads, they should be looking into streamlined mass transit with high speed transports from Santa Maria, through the Five Cities and on to the City of San Luis Obispo.), open space must be protected without every square inch being developed (the building industry is becoming more sensitive to these needs), our seniors and youth need to be represented and take into consideration all they have to offer in the present and the future. There are many of these issues surfacing or have surfaced. As a local elected official, I feel our goals need to be placed in a proper perspective. Political boundaries mean little today. What one community proposes; can have dramatic negative impacts on its neighbors. We need to protect what is ours yet promote a working relationship with our neighbors that can foster a positive impact on commerce, transportation & circulation, roads and all apects of our daily lives.
