Candidate for
Director; Los Osos Community Services District

This information is provided by the candidate

I wish to serve on the Los Osos Community Services District Board of Directors because I fell in love with this little town over 25 years ago and I want to have a part in it's future. I came to Los Osos as a teenager who had run away from home (Northern Michigan). My boyfriend, who had been in the area the winter before, did not want to spend another winter in Michigan. We intended to go back to Michigan in the spring, but we fell in love, not only with each other, but also with Los Osos. I finished High School at Pacific Beach Continuation High School in Morro Bay. I made friends that I still hold very close in my heart. And became engaged to marry my boyfriend (Larry). I never believed that I could be so happy. Only three years after we arrived there was a terrible car accident. Larry was dead. I was not expected to live either but I surprised the doctors. My mother and brother flew out to stay with me while I healed. The idea was that I would return to Michigan when I was well enough to travel. I decided that I needed to stay here. I had the "family" here that I didn't have in Michigan. And, how could I ever leave Paradise. I would probably never get a chance to get back to Los Osos. I slowly healed, both physically and emotionally, with the help of my friends. I enrolled in Cuesta college as a Business Major, because everything is a business. I took some time off to have my daughter and be a Mommy. That is still the best job I've ever had. I went back to Cuesta and recieved an AA degree in Business Administration. One of my wonderfull friends took me up to Cal Poly. He had more faith in me than I did. I reviewed the programs and thought the City and Regional Planning program was interesting. I fell more in love with the program with each class I took. One of the first Term Papers I wrote was about the first attempt to create a Community Services District in Los Osos. I was so angry that it didn't pass. I couldn't believe that the citizens of Los Osos could not understand how important it was to have input into what happened in Los Osos. With all the complaining about what the county was or wasn't doing, I was sure that it would pass. Later I wrote another paper about Wastewater Treatment Plants. I have great respect for all the years of work that has been done with regard to the current design and am willing to support the decisions made before me. I have held several Planning positions over the last few years, both as a City Planner and an Environmental Planner. I have worked both in the Public sector and the Private sector. It has always been my intention to be involved with the budding government in Los Osos. I have struggled with lingering health problems related to that car accident many years ago. I can no longer work full time but still continue to be active in the field of Planning. I really enjoy my seats on both the Environmental Review Committee and the Parks and Recreation Committee. I am looking forward to the good work that will come of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan that I am writing. And I am verry pleased with the work that has been done to get the Community Garden started. I think that the next natural step for me would be to serve on the Los Osos Community Services District Board of Directors. Being a Board Member would give me the opportunity to use the fruits of my labor to guide Los Osos into the future.
