· I do not treat the position of Commissioner, Port San Luis Harbor District as a political office. Politics generally has a quid pro quo (this for that) connotation; "Support me on this issue and I'll support you on your issue". My actions are independent and transparent and not, by this definition, political. I freely and clearly discuss pros and cons of any issue before the board and the public at the regular board meetings; I can only support a position, or project, if I think it is the best thing for the District (users, patrons, residents, voters, tax payers), not for some special interest.

· Similarly, I have never taken a dime in campaign contributions in any of the seven elections, including this one, I have run in since November 1982; every cent spent was out of my own pocket. My first candidate statement cost $75.00, the one for this election cost $1250.00, money well spent since I feel it is necessary to express ideas on issues in a clear, straight forward manner in a venue where it will be read by interested, informed and SMART voters.

· I understand that I do not know everything and am not an expert on all issues that come before me as a Commissioner. I listen. I am prepared to defend my beliefs with conviction but I also listen and am prepared to change or modify my opinion on an issue when presented with substantively new or better information. If I stand alone on an issue, I state my reasons.

· First and foremost, Port San Luis is a harbor and must remain a harbor. A functioning, viable harbor needs recreational and commercial boats, facilities to work on them, fuel facilities and easy vessel access to load and unload passengers or commercial products. I have been committed to this vision of Port San Luis since comming here almost 30 years ago and I am prepared to continue to keep this character of Port San Luis intact in the future as a Harbor Commissioner.
