By Marcelo R. Rivera, M.D.

Candidate for Palomar Pomerado Health; Palomar Pomerado Health System; Full Term

This information is provided by the candidate
The Hospital District must continue to improve and expand its services. I am committed to putting "caring" back into Health Care. Patients have the "Right to accessible, excellent health care provided with respect, privacy, dignity and compassion."
"We need to focus on providing the best Health Care for all."
The Hospital District must continue to improve and expand its services. I am committed to putting "caring" back into Health Care. Patients have the "Right to accessible, excellent health care provided with respect, privacy, dignity and compassion."

My qualifications include:

  • Twenty-five years of private practice in Ramona, Poway and Rancho Bernardo.
  • Current Hospital Board Trustee.
  • Chairperson, Hospital Board Finance Committee.
  • Past Chief-of-Staff at Pomerado Hospital.
  • Current Member of Hospital Board Strategic Planning Committee.
  • Current Member of Hospital Board Quality Management Committee.
  • Past School Board Trustee, served for thirteen years.

These experiences make me qualified to serve on the Hospital Board. My medical background and the experience of taking care of patients give me the perspective necessary to understand the needs of our community and what constitutes good health care.

My main issues are:

  • 1. Recruiting and hiring the best staff to provide the highest level of care to all of the patients of the hospital district. Maintaining excellent morale among the nurses and the rest of the staff is critical to ensuring the highest standard of care and patient satisfaction.
  • 2. Continuing to work toward the successful completion of the Master Facility Plan adopted by the Hospital Board July 2004. Successful implementation of Proposition BB, "The Hospital, Emergency Care, Trauma Center Improvement and Repair Measure" is vital to providing outstanding Health Care Services to our communities.
  • 3. Ensuring the greatest accountability and maintaining a strong fiscal plan to safeguard the financial viability of the hospital district. We must protect the public's interest and not violate their trust.
  • 4. Ensuring access to affordable, high quality health care to all members of our community is a must. Improving and expanding facilities and clinical programs will assure access to outstanding comprehensive services throughout the hospital district's service area.
