Faculty Salaries at MiraCosta Community College
A 9/19/04 NC Times article reported that MCC salaries rank highest among the nation's community colleges. I believe a quality faculty helps insure a quality education. As a currrent Trustee I've reviewed and approved prudent budgets which have enabled MCC to attract and retain top caliber faculty and staff, improve facilities, expand student services, and maintain a healthy reserve. All of this has been accomplished with no changes in the tax rates for district property owners.
My Interest in Being a Trustee
In August, 2003, the MCC Board of Trustees selected me from a field of 10 candidates to fill the remaining year of a retiring Trustee's term. My efforts over the last year have earned me the endorsements of all of my fellow Trustees, our recently retired college president, and my predecessor Trustee, Jean Moreno. Last year, all of the interested candidates for Trustee were asked to write a letter to the board expressing their interst and qualifications. Below is my letter.
Issue Discussion
There are many issues facing MiraCosta College in the years ahead. Among other things, these include the need for a strategic plan for the San Elijo campus, addressing changes in the athletic and health services program, considering the future of the School of Business and Technology, and increasing course offerings in the face of budget uncertainities. For my answers on a series of questions, please go to the full text.
