Position on Hiring More Police:

By Michael T. Lucas

Candidate for Council Member; City of Oceanside

This information is provided by the candidate
No More Money for Police until retirement problem is fixed
I cannot vote to hire more police officers with out a full investigation first being made in to the extraordinary high number of police officers and firemen that left the system under a disability retirement.

Oceanside has over 184 officers and firemen out on disability retirement. This number is higher then any other city in San Diego County by more then four to one. This problem is consuming about 1/3 of our police budget every year. Chula Vista came the closest with 101 on disability retirement. No other city comes even close.

Disability pensions account for 74 percent of all public safety pensions in Oceanside, the highest percentage among San Diego Cities. I cannot in good conscience spend one dime more while such abuse goes unchecked.
