Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Scott Gulbransen

Candidate for
Board Member; Solana Beach Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate

Dear Voter:

We are entering a pivotal time in the growth of the Solana Beach School District. I'm sure that, like me, you're concerned that the rapid changes in our area don't have an adverse impact on the education of our children.

School is such an important foundation for everything they will attempt and accomplish in the future. We owe them nothing less than the best education and after-school programs we can provide.

When I think about what kind of person I want on the Solana Beach School Board, it is:

- Someone committed to listening patiently and understanding all the issues affecting our children.
- Someone with the vision and commitment to make our district even better than it is today.
- Someone with the best interests--and only the interests of our kids--at heart

I'm confident I can be that voice for you on the Solana Beach School Board.

I grew up in North County and am a product of our local schools. I have deep roots in this area and I'm committed to seeing that it remains the best place in the world in which to live.

As a proud father of two, I've been involved in school and community activities all my adult life. Solana Beach is where I want to see my children grow up; and, like you, I want to make their childhood experience the best it can be.

With your help and input, I know I can bring these things to our schools:

- Higher test scores. Our kids have fallen behind in writing and some language arts skills. I will work with teachers and administrators on programs that make our kids better readers and writers.

- Fiscal responsibility. Ensuring that the classroom, our kids and our teachers are given first priority on the dollars we have to spend. I want to make budget accountability a reality.

- Controlled growth. We need a quick and fair resolution to the legal issues affecting the District from the acquisition of the land for Solana Pacific Elementary. My fellow Trustees and I will work with Pardee homes to resolve this issue and free our district's finances for more important issues like our teacher-to-student ratio.

I'm running for office because I know I can make a difference for my kids and your kids; and I would appreciate your vote on November 2.

Solana Beach is the best place in America to live. Our schools should be the best too.
