Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Twila C. Godley

Candidate for
Board Member; Lakeside Union Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate

While basic education means different things to each individual, all children should have the opportunity to develop their talents and abilities to their maximum through public education. I believe:

  • A. The parent is a child's first teacher.
  • B. Schools must involve parents in the total school experience.
  • C. A balanced curiculum is needed with clearly stated standards for achievement.
  • D. There should be competant, qualified teachers in every classroom.
  • E. Schools need to prepare students to be responsible member of a democratic society.

School districts need to provide up to date instructional materials to meet not only the state standards in academic subjects, but supplimental materials for the scientific and technological expansion of knowledge. Schools should also provided training in the arts, before and after school opportunities for enrichment and remediation, character education and a safe and positive school climate. The Board of Trustees has the reponsibility to ensure that the budget provides students and staff with the best materials available in a fiscally responsible manner.
